Healthy, Homemade Waffles

If your family is anything like ours… breakfast is a big deal.

We recently moved to Texas after spending three long years in Virginia with my husband on sea duty with the Navy. Over those 3 years, we had a total of 12 weeks where we were together as a family. Of those 12 weeks, each 6th day he was required to spend 24 hours on his ship. This took a huge toll on our family time, and really amped up our excitement for weekend breakfasts together, which really seemed like a mini holiday for us. Now… family breakfasts are still a big part of our little family. It means the world to our kids, and has a special place in my heart, and my husband’s heart too.

One of our favorite breakfasts is waffles. Sometimes adding a homemade fruit compote to the top… sometimes adding on some cream cheese. There is no shortage of ways to dress up your waffles… and we love how much lighter they end up being compared to pancakes. These are definitely our sons favorites too! (though they typically enjoy having chocolate added)

Delicious holiday waffles made with ancient grain Einkorn, which is a healthy alternatives to wheat, and Vitality essential oils! Enjoy pumpkin spice waffles with ginger, nutmeg, and clove vitality essential oils.

Base recipe for Waffles

  • 1 cup (1 1/4 oz) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (1 oz) einkorn flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 6 Tbs (3 oz) butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup (4oz) sour cream
  • 3 Tbs molasses or maple syrup

Mix the ingredients, and add them into your prepped and pre-heated waffle iron. You can also use this as a base for pancakes as well.

Our Favorite Add-in Ideas

There are many ways to spruce up your waffles adding in different spices, herbs, or even vitality essential oils!

Gingerbread:
  • 3 drops ginger vitality essential oil
  • 2 drops nutmeg vitality essential oil
  • 2 drops clove vitality essential oil
Blueberry Lemon
Pumpkin Pie
  • 3 drops cinnamon vitality essential oil
  • 2 drops nutmeg vitality essential oil
  • 1 drop clove vitality essential oil
