Life Happens, Ready Or Not… Take Action

Life happens… whether you’re ready or not… whether you have a backup plan or not… you either end up on the side lines or you step up to the plate and swing the bat at whatever opportunities are present.

As time ticks by, it seems to tick faster. Opportunities are missed or overlooked. There just aren’t enough hours in the day. Sometimes we just need a pause. Whatever the reason is, you have the chance to make a change.

Sometimes people really don’t understand how past events have shaped who you are and how you think. They assume everything happens for a reason or that things just happen. This doesn’t always have to be the case. Life does happen, and sometimes throws curve balls that are undeserved and unexpected. This does not, however, describe your entire life unless you’re busy living on the sidelines. If you’re ready for a change, it’s time to take life by the reins, make some decisions, and follow through.

Anxiety Summit

Since last August I’ve read John Maxwell’ book The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth: Live Them and Reach Your Potential, twice. If you haven’t read it, you need to! This book called out every one of my unproductive weaknesses and kicked me in the proverbial butt. It discusses everything you need to do to become more productive and grow as an individual, which will leak out into helping you grow professionally too.

Sometimes unexpected events happen: we become ill, we lose employment, or some other life-changing event occurs to point us in the direction we should be going. Remember the old adage: “when one door closes, another one opens.” Sometimes we spend too much time trying to bang down closed doors that we overlook open ones. If the door you’re trying to bang down doesn’t open, then it’s not your door. There are opportunities everywhere you turn. Many of those opportunities look like work and are far from being easy, that doesn’t mean they won’t be worthwhile.

Make a decision and choose to follow through…

Here is a hint… deciding to do something and actually taking action are two different things…

98% of the population shrinks their dreams to fit their income, while 2% find ways to increase their income to fit their dreams. – Dani Johnson

Not everyone has a budget to buy their dream home or go on their dream vacation. Many families live in poverty on one income so one parent can stay home with the kids because childcare expenditures for multiple kids end up costing more than a mortgage, and often more than what one parent would make. Each family and individual does the best they can to suit their needs. As long as there is happiness and fulfillment within that situation, this scenario is perfectly ok.
But…

Then there are the hopeless dreamers.

  • There are the unemployed and disabled veterans.
  • The starving college students.
  • The new adults, many just graduating high school.
  • The travelers at heart.
  • Those who are restless for a change….
  • Those whose thirst for experience, adventure, or something more cannot be quenched.

Those are the people who need to grow the most. Those are the people who need to dive into some form of entrepreneurship. Those are the people who need to challenge themselves to rise up and create the life they dream of… the life they crave… the life they will earn.

Are you “too busy” to take action?

I know life gets busy. My family is in an extremely busy season too, with my husband working overtime hours while I stay at home running two businesses, caring for our two sons, and mentoring five lovely ladies in launching their own businesses.

Sometimes you feel like you just need some time to shut off your mind and take a break… meanwhile those thoughts are swirling around throughout your mind, stressing you out… begging you to travel… begging you to get out of the confines or your job… begging you to spend your time doing something more fulfilling… but you just can’t figure out how to break out of what you’re doing to lead a more ideal life…

There is something to be said about seeking the mentorship of someone doing exactly what you want to be doing. If you’re not already on LinedIn yet, head over there (you’re welcome to connect with me there too). Professionals love to network with people that they can learn from and they can teach. There is a whole new side of personal development that happens when you start coaching others to help them along their journey too.

Sometimes when you’re at your busiest, grabbing a good day planner (or filling out your computer/phone calendars) and jumping into a structured challenge is just what you need!
Sometimes when you’re at your busiest, you become more effective and productive with everything you do. Some of the most successful business people I’ve met started their ventures and experienced the largest amount of growth during extremely busy seasons of their lives, and have been some of the most enjoyable people to work with.

Why? When you’ve gone through busy seasons in your life, you value your time more.

Action Items:

  1. Make a decision to do something to improve your life
  2. Seek mentorship from someone who is where you want to be
  3. Take action (because your choice needs action before anything will change)
  4. Create a time budget in a scheduling tool of your choice.
