Using Essential Oils To Follow Through With Your New Year's Resolutions

Have you ever spent the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve carefully plotting out how to kick old self-destructive habits and develop new healthy habits… to become so excited about the New You that you will embrace in this New Year… only for March to suddenly appear and you've totally fallen off the bandwagon?

Yeah… me too… almost every year… which is why I've adopted themes to embrace instead of specific goals… because… well… it is the lazy way out that also offers more ability to dive into some creativity (which is where I love for my mind to be).

Well… being the Queen of failed New Year Resolutions, I went on a journey to find simple little tips and tricks to Life Hack my way into being more successful, and am sharing with you all my findings!

New Year Resolutions... the promises we make ourselves to better our lives... but too often we fall short on our goals. Make words mean something again! Keep the promises you made to yourself with these simple tips!

Essential oils for your weight loss New Year Resolutions

I resolve to lose weight.

This is probably the one I am asked about the most. So many people want to lose weight, and their unused or overused gym memberships haven't helped. In case you haven't seen the research yet… its not always a matter of not enough time working out. Sometimes it's related to our thyroids… sometimes the extra weight is related to stress… and sometimes its related to toxin exposure causing harmful chemicals to bioaccumulate in our bodies (often held in our fat cells).

I remember gaining 40 lbs when pregnant with my first son and gaining 50 lbs with my second pregnancy. The first one I bounced back pretty well after a year and a half. The second one… a year and a half later… still 30 lbs overweight. Usually I'm not too overly focused on the weight number… but after my second pregnancy, I felt heavy and sluggish. To combat this weight and sluggish thyroid, we opted to dive into the world of prebiotics to support healing my gut, EndoFlex essential oil blend to help my thyroid, and CelLite Magic massage oil to help support my skin as I shrank to smaller sizes.

Yes… I said prebiotics… not probiotics (though those are important too…) I found a helpful article for you just in case you need to know the Difference Between Probiotics and Prebiotics

Recommended single essential oils: lavender, lemon, grapefruit, juniper, cypress, Ocotea
Recommended essential oil blends: Slique Essence, EndoFlex

Blend together 4 drops lavender, 4 drops basil, 3 drops juniper, 8 drops grapefruit, 5 drops cypress. Mix, and apply to feet, on location, as a body massage, or use in bath.

Our favorite essential oils company, Young Living, happens to have a whole line of products based on essential oils to help too!

  • Slique Essence also comes as a tea, gum, snack bars, and supplements all designed to help you lose weight safely.
  • Ningxia Red is a great supplement to drink an ounce of each day.
  • During the weight loss journey and after, apply some of the Cel-Lite Magic massage oil to your skin to help it regain elasticity.

Use essential oils to stop smoking.

Single oils: Black Pepper, Clove, Peppermint
Oil blends: Thieves

Black pepper is the big one we hear a lot about for cutting the smoking habit. Ironically enough, when it's diffusing it doesn't make me sneeze like ground place pepper does. It's a nice aroma that helps curb those cravings.

I've read a lot of reports about placing Thieves or clove oil on one's tongue right before lighting up to reduce the desire to smoke too. Please note… If you choose to place Thieves or Clove oil in your mouth, PLEASE dilute the oil first and make sure the brand of oil used is a quality brand.

Use essential oils to help stop drinking alcohol (or cut back)

Alcohol does a lot more than just make you tipsy. It's a fast track to a stressed liver, which also stresses the kidneys, increases moodiness and depression, and destroys your gut flora that can lead you down the path of compromised immune system.. or worse. Yes… my best friend's father died from liver failure directly related to his drinking… so we take this one very seriously.

While an oil is not going to make you put down the bottle… they may help ease your withdrawal. Essential oils can specifically help you with curbing cravings, achieve better sleep, increase mental focus and clarity, enhance your spiritual and personal growth, enable you to stay present and mindful, and assist you in keeping calm.

Single oils: Rosemary, Fennel, Juniper,
Oil blends: Purification, Peace and Calming

Quick note: Please, do not use clary sage essential oil or blends containing it and alcohol together; it may result in nightmares

On a personal note, I stopped drinking slowly… cutting down over time while enduring some major chronic autoimmune issues and seizures. We do, however, have a recovered alcoholic on our team that I would love to introduce you to if you need a coach to help you through that transformation. Let me know if you need some help, and I'd love to introduce you… just send over a message to nicole@ essentialoils.life

** PLEASE NOTE ** Don't be fooled by clever marketing. Not all essential oils are created equally. Make sure you're not wasting your money on fake or altered essential oils (even if they're labeled as “pure essential oil”). Don't miss our explosive report outlining the dirty little secrets of the essential oil industry to ensure you're not wasting your money on brands of oils that legally mislead you through deceitful marketing practices.

Use essential oils to help stop eating sugar (or cut back)

Single oils: Dill, Octea, Fennel, Bergamont, Calamus, Peppermint,
Oil blends: Purification, Peace and Calming, Slique

Sugar is one of the hardest things I've cut from my food lifestyle… but once I went without sugar for a consecutive 30 days, reintroducing it made me feel physically ill and mentally cloudy. Totally worth the crazy sugar cravings over that first month.

Cutting sugar doesn't mean you can't enjoy the sweet little things in life. Lord knows I LOVE baking some lovely sweets for our family.

Sugar alternatives: honey, maple syrup, stevia, yucan syrup, apple sauce, pear butter.

Use essential oils to stop bad habits

This one has been tough for me. My biggest bad habit has been picking at my fingernails. I've picked my nails since I was 5 years old… after 30 years… its time to stop.

Oil blends: Peace and Calming, Valor, Acceptance, Sacred Mountain, Transformation

This was a tough one for me because it forced me to dive deep down and address the why behind the habit. We don't do anything habitually just because we can… there is always an underlying reason.

For me… its a stress thing, related to the emotional trauma I had while my parents prepared to divorce. Now, when there is tension or stress in my life, I pick my nails. When I'm angry at myself, I pick my nails.

It's not an easy process to look deep down in your shadow and heal, but oils like Valor, Acceptance, Sacred Mountain, and Transformation are fantastic for that. Dive deep, find the pain, forgive yourself and any others who hurt your, and allow yourself to feel while forgiving it all.

Know you're loved, and know you don't need any of the self-harm that comes from the habit. You're worth more. If you need help, please reach out. I'd gladly set you up with the same transformational coach that helped me through some crazy habits and anxiety.

Break Old Habits By Creating Healthy Habits

Habits can be difficult to break, but there are a few oils that can help inspire you to break old ones while committing to healthier ones.

Some of the unhealthier habits that cause cravings can also decrease by drinking NingXia Red and taking a quality prebiotic. When you promote wellness and provide your body with the nutrition it needs, you'll find that you don't crave as much of the junk as you used to.

Most of the creating productive habits I've been asked about include:

  • sticking to a new fitness routine,
  • increasing financial awareness,
  • enhancing faith,
  • spending more time with family,
  • spend more time with friends or meeting new ones,
  • having more fun, and
  • aspiring for professional advancements.

Each of these good habits can have a profound impact on your quality of life.

Creating healthy habits isn't always easy, but if you schedule time for them on a regular basis, by month's end they should be easy to maintain. I do believe that is the biggest factor: scheduling in healthy habits. Make time and prioritize what is important to you.

Inner Child essential oil blend is another one of my favorites… it really does an incredible job at putting you in a mindset that allows you to embrace kid time, let go, and be silly. We all need as much of that as we can get… this whole adulting thing tends to make us much too serious.

Inspiration essential oil blend is my go-to for career needs. My entrepreneurial career path is highly dependent on my ability for critical thinking, creativity, and connecting with people (research, writing, consulting). Inspiration helps me stay in the mindset I need for allowing and encouraging the flow of ideas, information, and what will best serve my readers and the families we consult with.

We had some great, long laughs over my actually being an oil for that. I'm loving every second of helping these friends find their groove with working towards their goals, and I hope you've found some inspiration too.

I do have a whole blog post dedicated to helping you maximize your productivity too. It has a bunch of ideas that I personally use to help me run two businesses and manage multiple blogs from home, while I also care for my toddler. You should definitely check it out!
