Essential Oil DIY Supplies
There are so many websites to choose from and choices to sift though. So I compiled a list of my and my customers' favorites!
Roller Ball Bottles
We do use a few different types. My biggest tip is to find a roller ball bottle with a stainless steel ball. I suggest stainless steel because citrus oils and frankincense oils can degrade the plastic… meaning the plastic ball can pop out or become inefficient, and the last thing you need or want is to accidentally create a big mess (yes, this based on personal experience). Plus, stainless steel balls just roll better, in my opinion.
I also recommend you use a colored bottle… not clear… to avoid light exposure so your oils will last longer.
- My favorite place to get roller balls is over at Oily Tools. They have a lot of sizes and colors to choose from.
- Amazon also has some really cute options, too.
Jars for lotions and sugar scrubs
We do recommend you use glass jars when making goodies with essential oils. I often use mason jars… either 4 oz or 8 oz. If you choose to use 8 oz jars, I recommend using the short, wide-mouthed ones because it is much easier to scoop out the sugar scrub, balm, or lotion you make.
When giving gifts, I love using the mason jar options and adding a square piece of cloth between the top and the ring, with a piece of twine tied around the neck in a bow.
- My favorite short wide-mouth mason jars on Amazon
- I especially love matching the wide-mouth mason jars with these wooden lids
Spray Bottles
Spray bottles are super handy to keep on hand for linen sprays, room freshening sprays, and even a spray bottle for children to “keep monsters away.” We even use the smaller spray bottles for facial spritzes, especially with our Cooling Peppermint Spray recipe and DIY perfumes!
My favorite spray bottles can be found at
Carrier Oils We Use:
Liquid carrier oils are definitely needed for making roller bottles. They are also great to add to homemade lotions.
My favorite carrier oils can be found over at Jade Bloom, but I also really like the V6 oil from Young Living. And of course, you can find plenty of options on Amazon as well.
Additional Items
There are some additional items we often use, like mango butter and beeswax.
I do like using mango butter more than shea butter because the smell is a bit sweeter and less aggressive. But you can use cocoa butter and any seed butter in its place.
We also use honey, and typically source it locally instead of online because so many honey brands online that are sold are actually fake (mostly just plain sugar). Plus, when you purchase local honey, you contribute to your local economy. Just be sure to stock up because local honey can be difficult to find during the winter months.
